SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3
Genesis 1:3-4 -And God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
Oh the joy of becoming a grandparent for the first time. The anticipation, the waiting. We find out it’s going to be a boy. More waiting! The baby shower comes and goes. More waiting! The day finally arrives. HE’S HERE! The waiting is finally over. But wait. He can’t breathe. He has problems breathing. We see him for the first time. He is so precious….what little we can see of him with tubes, wires, and machines. We hear the news. He needs surgery right away. He is only two hours old and the doctors are talking surgery. All the emotions are flowing. They’re all mixed together. Happiness and joy, but sadness and fear. We hurt with our own child, the new father, as we can visually see the pain and agony on his face. Then the waiting starts again. Wait for the surgery. Wait for another twenty-four hours. Wait until he recovers. Wait for this and wait for that. And then another surgery. The darkness surrounds us! Where is God’s light?
Let light shine out of darkness, make his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
Okay….maybe things start to settle down. Then we find out we won’t be able to hear him. We don’t hear him cry. We don’t hear him coo. We don’t hear him laugh. We don’t hear just the simple whimpers or grunts. We are focusing on all the negatives. That’s when we get into trouble, dwelling on what we don’t have instead of the countless things God has given us. He is still here with us. He is still alive. He is very healthy and he will outgrow this. What joy!
Prayer: O Jesus, life is not without difficult seasons. Your heavenly light of Truth penetrates the fog of our confusion, burning off the mist of doubt. Father, may others see the light on my face that only comes from knowing You.
