Exodus 13:21 -By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
This passage describes how God delivered his people up out of Egypt away from the evil Pharaoh. The Israelites had suffered greatly from Pharaoh’s hardened heart. Exodus is defined as “exit” or “departure”. The Book of Exodus is truly one of the great miracles of God’s care for his people in the Old Testament—the Israelites being freed from slavery and leaving Egypt. When we study this passage, we are reminded of God’s love for his people. Not only in the time of Moses, but for all of us every minute of our lives. The sins of Pharaoh remind us of all the sin and temptation that surrounds us in today’s world. We see the hardened heart of Pharaoh in every direction we turn. “Exodus” for us really means to flee from sin and turn to God. We see God all around us in nature, our family, our friends, and our Church! The power of prayer reminds us of a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire, because we know that the Lord will always be there for us!
During this Advent season, we pray that your family will feel the love of God in your lives!
