Boy Scouts

Troop 101 is a chartered unit of the Boy Scouts of America, and has served young men for 76 years with NFUMC as its chartering organization.  It is the oldest troop within the Del-Mi District.  The troop meets monthly at First UMC.   Boys age 11 through 5th grade, or who have earned the Arrow of Light are eligible to join. The current membership of the troop includes 88 Scouts and 36 adult leaders.

NFUMC also hosts several Cub Scout and Webelos dens, as well as the monthly District Roundtable for adult Boy Scout leaders across central Indiana.  The majority of the Webelos in Noblesville have selected NFUMC’s Troop 101 when they are eligible to cross over to Boy Scouts.   For information on Cub Scout Troop 100, please contact Cubmaster, Jerry Montag at (317) 773-4735.

Troop 101 has strengthened its governing board, which provides administrative oversight for the troop and the Scoutmaster. The committee is chaired by an NFUMC member and includes other NFUMC congregation members (a former Troop 101 Scoutmaster and Troop 106 Scoutmaster ).

Among the 36 adult leaders are eight Eagle Scouts who have remained with the troop to provide guidance and serve as inspiring examples. This level of adult commitment is not only unusual, but provides stability for the troop and strong leadership for the Scouts. Troop 101’s leadership impact extends throughout central Indiana. Two of Troop 101’s assistant Scoutmasters are district leaders with regional management responsibilities.

Union Methodist on 191st Street has started a new Scout troop and not only the adult leadership, but some Scouts from Troop 101, have been helping our neighboring Methodist church start their troop. These members of Troop 150 will be sharing campsites with NFUMC’s Troop 101 at summer camp at Camp Ransburg this year.

Occasionally the troops throughout Del-mi District (covering central Indiana) will compete on the basis of Scout skills. Most recent was the Winter Camporee at Camp Kikthewenund. In May we will have 14 Scouts completing the rigorous Firestone Scout Skill Competition.

NFUMC’s support of the Boy Scout program is not limited to Troop 101. Our church provides leadership and meeting space for several Cub Scout and Webelos dens, as well the district roundtable for adults from across this part of the state, adult leader training sessions, Eagle boards of review and merit badge workshops bringing in 300 or more Scouts from across the district. NFUMC is truly a regional base of support for Boy Scouting.
