BUCHANAN COUNSELOR

First United Methodist Church offers a pastoral counsler by the name of Michael Hamm, D.Min. Dr. Hamm has served as a pastoral counselor for Community Health Network Hopsice for the past six years and has been in private practice since 1996.

Dr. Hamm is married and has two young sons ages 5 and 7. His youngest son was a Riley baby for 10 months due to complications related to his premature birth. The experience of being a father of a special needs child has been both challenging and rewarding in many ways. Parenting in this context has helped him be a more sensitive therapist and aware of the many stressors in modern families related to health, illness, stress, and the importance of maintaining healthy relationships. He is committed to helping families and individuals on their unique journeys towards health, happiness, and wholeness.

Dr. Hamm completed his Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Christian Theological Seminary in 1996. He celebrated his 10th year of ordained ministry in 2004. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Indiana.

Dr. Hamm loves to explore the woods and parks in the Midwest in his free time with his family. The grandson of a missionary to Africa, he enjoys traveling and meeting people from all over the world. He loves to exercise and play tennis. He was a teaching tennis professional before preparing for his vocation of pastoral counseling.
