Chrysalis Flight   is the youth version of the Walk To Emmaus, its parent movement.  The chrysalis process symbolizes how Christ can transform you into something beyond your dreams.  It happens when you grow beyond yourself, opening your life to Jesus' power and love.

This three-day spiritual renewal time provides an opportunity for you to learn more about faith, to experience Christian love and support, and to make new faith commitments.  The point is to inspire, challenge and equip you for a closer friendship with Christ and for Christian action at home, church, school, and community.

Who should attend a Chrysalis Flight and why? Chrysalis is open to upper high school students of any Christian denomination.  It is for the development of Christian youth who:

  • wish to gain a fuller understanding of God's love;
  • may have questions about prayer, study, and Christian action;
  • understand that being Christ's friend, or a Christian, involves responsibility;
  • are open to dedicating everyday life to God.

What happens on on a Chrysalis Flight?  You'll spend 3 days with other people your age in worship, prayer, fellowship, creative expression, recreation, singing, and discussion.  You'll experience the love of God through prayers and the acts of service from a loving support community.

You'll hear talks, given by youth and adults, which focus on the needs of maturing youth, offer the message of the gospel and the friendship and example of Jesus Christ.  Each day you'll hear 5 talks, followed by discussion, reflection, and expression of how these messages can encourage your personal faith.  The discussions explore how friendship with Jesus can help you live out your faith with family, friends, and other people in your world.

What happens afterward?  You are invited to become intentional about your faith through local church participation, small group studies, and interpersonal sharing groups.  These activities provide the fellowship and support for serving and giving love to your community and the world.  Chrysalis invites you to build upon your experience the rest of your life, to spread your wings every day.

If you would like more information on attending a Chrysalis Flight or would like to find a sponsor, please call the Church Office.

N.A.M.I.- National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.  They meet in Conference Room C on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.

Research studies indicate 40-65% of adults with severe and persistent mental illness either reside with their families or receive primary care management from their families.  The ability of family members to provide a benign, understanding and predictable environment for their ill relative is a key factor in the capacity of the ill family member to stabilize and remain in the community.

NAMI Indiana sponsors the Family-to-Family Education program, which is a 12-week course for families of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.  The curriculum focuses on three major psychiatric illness:

  1. Schizophrenia
  2. Bipolar disorder
  3. Major depression

Family-to-Family emphasizes the clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need when faced with the problems of mental illness.  It also gives them the practical and emotional support to sustain them in their role as primary caretakers in the community mental health system.  Family members can be parents, spouses, siblings, children and significant others of persons with these diagnoses.  The course is not appropriate for persons who are themselves suffering from one of the major mental illnesses.

Pastoral Prayer - meets in Church Office, each Sunday before services.

Prayer Chain - Please call the Church Office with prayer needs.

Walk To Emmaus is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as he is revealed to you through other believers during a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity.  Following the three days, participants are given an opportunity to join in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ.  Through the formational process of accountable discipleship in small groups and participation in the Emmaus community, servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission.

Who should go to Emmaus?  Emmaus is open to members of any Christian denomination.  Emmaus is for the development of Christian leaders who:

  • are members of a local church;
  • have a desire to strengthen their spiritual lives;
  • may have unanswered questions about their faith;
  • understand that being a Christian involves responsibility;
  • are willing to dedicate their everyday lives to God in an ongoing manner.

If you would like more information on attending an Emmaus Walk or would like to find a sponsor, please call the Church Office.

What happens on the Emmaus weekend?  The Walk to Emmaus is a 72-hour experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation.  You will enjoy three busy days singing, learning, laughing, praying, worshipping, and participating in small groups.  Discussions center around 15 talks given by laity and clergy.  The theme of each talk is God's grace, how that grace comes alive in the Christian community, and how it expresses itself in the world.  You'll also discover how grace is real in your life, how you live a life of grace, and bring grace to others.  You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily celebration of Holy Communion and to understand more fully the body of Christ.  You will experience God's grace through the prayers and acts of anonymous service offered by the Emmaus community.  You will leave with an experience of Christian love in action that will equip you for new levels of grace-filled service and leadership.

What happens afterward?  You are invited to walk with Christ for the rest of your life.  Those who attend a Walk to Emmaus are encouraged to servant-leadership and to:

  • expand their own spiritual lives through worship, study, and active participation in their local church;
  • become more active disciples of Christ in service to the world.

To nurture this process of discipleship, the Emmaus movement offers specific opportunities:

  1. groups of 4 to 6 people meet weekly to reflect on their spiritual journey and encourage one another in accountable discipleship.
  2. there are monthly community gatherings where Emmaus participants meet for fellowship, worship, and instruction.
  3. through a newsletter, members become aware of support needs for upcoming Walks and other opportunities for servant-leadership.
